Which did you like better? I always prefer the book, but this movie was very well done. It was generally true to the book, although there was a little bit of Hollywood style romance added. Let us know by adding your comments below.
P.S. If you have not yet seen the movie, Wake County will be showing it at several libraries during the month of April. Click here to find the list of events.

For our next discussion, we’d like you to think about the perspective of the book. The author uses the first-person narrative voice for both of her principal characters. Why do you feel she does this? How effective is each in showing the characters attitudes and motivations? Did you like this, or did you find the change distracting?
Please tell us your thoughts by using the comments section below.

Here’s the first question we’d like to pose for consideration:
The preparation and eating of food is decribed in detail in many parts of the book. What is the significance of this, and what do the attitudes of the main characters towards food show about their personalities?
Please post your answers in the comments below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Wake Reads Together (WRT) is a community-wide reading initiative that aims to have everyone in the area reading the same book at the same time. Readers then come together for book discussions, lectures, films, author appearances, and other book-related events. Libraries throughout the country have launched community-wide reading programs based on a simple question — “What would happen if everyone read the same book?”Over the course of the last five years, thousands of Wake County residents have read the book selected for that year and attended events. This year, we have enhanced the program to include two selections, one for adult readers as in the past, but also one for families and younger readers to enjoy. The theme for 2008 is A Passion for Chocolate. The adult selection is Chocolat, by Joanne Harris and the Children’s selection is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We will be having an ongoing discussion of the adult book here on wakereads08.wordpress.com throughout the months of January, February, and March. Please join us by adding your comments, and check in regularly to take part in our discussion!
