Wake Reads Together 2008

December 12, 2007

Chocolat coverWake Reads Together (WRT) is a community-wide reading initiative that aims to have everyone in the area reading the same book at the same time. Readers then come together for book discussions, lectures, films, author appearances, and other book-related events. Libraries throughout the country have launched community-wide reading programs based on a simple question — “What would happen if everyone read the same book?”Over the course of the last five years, thousands of Wake County residents have read the book selected for that year and attended events. This year, we have enhanced the program to include two selections, one for adult readers as in the past, but also one for families and younger readers to enjoy. The theme for 2008 is A Passion for Chocolate. The adult selection is Chocolat, by Joanne Harris and the Children’s selection is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We will be having an ongoing discussion of the adult book here on wakereads08.wordpress.com throughout the months of January, February, and March. Please join us by adding your comments, and check in regularly to take part in our discussion!
