Since the book makes me crave chocolate, I thought we could share some recipes. Here’s an old recipe I found in my mother-in-laws’ box called “Best-Ever Chocolate Cake”. I’d switch butter for margarine, but it looks quite decadent! You can add your recipes to the comments section below.
2 Sticks Margarine
1 Cup Water
4 Tablespoons Cocoa
2 Cups Flour (self-rising)
2 Cups Sugar
2 Eggs
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
½ Cup Buttermilk
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
***Note: Do not use mixer. Mix with spatula or spoon.***
Bring margarine and water to boil. Mix together cocoa, flour, and sugar; pour margarine and water over cocoa mixture. Add Eggs, buttermilk, soda, and vanilla. Bake in sheet cake pan at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
Frosting
1 Stick Margarine
4 Tablespoons Cocoa
6 Tablespoons Buttermilk
1 Box Powdered Sugar
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
(Optional: 1 cup Pecans, ½ cup Coconut) note says “makes cake delicious”
Mix margarine, cocoa, and buttermilk together and bring to a boil. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, pecans, and coconut. Mix well. Punch holes in cake with fork. Pour mixture over hot cake and cover with foil. Let set until ready to serve.
Enjoy!
